Submissions to The John Marshall Review of Intellectual Property Law
The John Marshall Review of Intellectual Property Law (“RIPL”) invites all professors, attorneys, government officials, industry participants, and other individuals active in the field of intellectual property law and policy to submit scholarly articles, presentations, and other materials for publication. In just six years, RIPL has experienced remarkable success and resides among the top IP journals in the nation. In addition to articles by a number of IP practitioners, RIPL issues have included contributions from:
Justice John Paul Stevens of the United States Supreme Court
Chief Judge Paul Michel and Judge Richard Linn of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit
Judge Richard Posner of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit
Former Under Secretary and Director of the United States Patent Office Q. Todd Dickinson
Current and Former United States Register of Copyrights Mary Beth Peters and Ralph Oman
Treatise Authors Donald Chisum and Robert Harmon
Professors Harold Wegner, Janice Mueller, Kenneth Port, Graeme Dinwoodie, and Tyler Ochoa
As an on-line journal, RIPL outpaces traditional print journals by efficiently producing and electronically publishing quality articles. Thus, RIPL provides authors with the opportunity of publishing topical articles before others. For example, on April 19, 2002, Professor Harold C. Wegner gave a speech on the Enzo Biochem v. Gen-Probe case that the Federal Circuit had decided days earlier on April 2, 2002. RIPL editors converted the speech into an article by adding necessary footnotes, and the article was published in RIPL on April 29, 2002. Professor Wegner's article was cited by the Federal Circuit two months later on July 15, 2002, a timeline that would have been impossible for a traditional print journal. See, e.g., Enzo Biochem, Inc. v. Gen-Probe Inc., 42 Fed. Appx. 439, 452 (Fed. Cir. 2002) (Rader, J., dissenting) (citing Harold C. Wegner, An Enzo White Paper: A New Judicial Standard for a Biotechnology "Written Description" Under 35 U.S.C. § 112, ¶1, 1 J. Marshall Rev. Intell. Prop. L. 254, 263 (2002)).
The high quality and timeliness of RIPL’s articles has attracted nearly 2,000 subscribers—a number continuing to grow. RIPL’s issues are published four times each year and are available on LexisNexis and Westlaw. Additionally, RIPL provides authors with professionally printed courtesy copies. Subject to the author’s approval, RIPL’s staff will provide editorial assistance, conduct research, add necessary footnotes, and complete cite checking. Furthermore, in certain cases, RIPL is willing to convert a transcribed speech into a publishable article. RIPL looks forward to working with you in the future.
